I know you've moved on to a manual filter but I'm curious, what's the big deal about one additional folder if it does the job for you. I have a lot of 'extra' folders that I keep under a compressed 'archive' master folder which I rarely look at. Your special sender could be filtered to change color on arrival & move automatically to trash after a certain # of days if you left in your inbox.
