FWIW, people's preferences are different, but I don't really think that the setup you described is the most elegant way to do what you want. Instead of manual filters, consider making more extensive use of "read" filters. Instead of flagging messages that you want to delete and then filtering around them and then deleting them, just delete them after they're read, if you are going to read them, or leave them unread. Then, after everything else has been filtered out, simply empty the folder all at once (context menu or Ctrl+Del).
