As I have no problems opening .msg files with TB, with or without
attachments, I would think these files themselves are corrupted.

Open one of these files (one without attachment, for example) and open
it in a text editor. You should see all the headers (Starting with
From:), and then there should be one blank line, and then there should
be the text of the message.
