Sounds like you are on the right track. This problem does not appear to
be happening on my laptop at all, and only started happening recently on
my desktop (which is why I'm convinced *I* changed something).

I had been trying out some PDF programs that convert documents to PDF
format using a printer driver. Two of those programs installed toolbar
button in Word. Could this have anything to with the "content type"
problem?
