No, I did not check that in any earlier uninstall efforts. I have just
now uninstalled again, and this time I did check it. Although I chose
the option *not* to keep any files on the disk, to my amazement, I find
that the message base folder I mentioned earlier, The Bat! Pwd, is still
there in all its glory. And under C:\Program Files\ there are *two*
The Bat! folders, one of them has the name The Bat!(2). See this
screenshot.

This may be significant as you look at these screenshots. I upgraded to

I'm sure all of that is more than you wanted to know, but maybe it will
offer some clues..
I'd make sure that really *everything* is gone after the uninstall (by
manually checking the program files directory and your user profile
directory where the messagebases are) and try again with a fresh install
then.
As you can see, even though I specified NOT to retain any files, a whole
lot is left.

And I hope these screenshots give you some information about what may be
going on and suggests the next strategy. Let me ask if anyone thinks
that trying an install that is NOT in the default locations would help.
