I would suggest instead to archive them within TB! in a password-protected "archive" account(s). That way, they are always easily to hand when you are using TB! but never actually get loaded unless you enter the password to go into the archive account. This is based on the method suggested to me on this list 2 or 3 years ago by MAU. - Archived_Messages account duplicates the folder tree structure of my main account. Actually, it just duplicates the folder I want to archive. - In the Properties/General of each of the folders of my main account that I want to archive, I tick the option 'Keep messages in the base for (days)' and enter the number of days. - In Properties/Deletion, I tick the 'Use folder specific deletion settings' option. - Then, for 'Alternative deletion' I select 'Move to the specified folder' and, of course, I browse to select the corresponding folder in the 'Archived_Messages account'. - And also tick the box for 'Use alternative deletion for purging this folder'. - And in the Properties/Additional tab under "on exit" I tick both "Remove old messages" and "compress the folder". As I have said, I do this for each the folder I want to archive. Now, when every night I close down TB!, the 'old messages' in each folder are automagically moved to the corresponding folder in the Archived_Messages account. What's the benefit of doing this? Well, as I said at the beginning, the Archived_Messages account is password protected. When you start TB, it will not open any password protected account and 'waste time' in opening each of it folders. Only when I need to find an archived message will I select my Archived_Messages account, enter the password and open it. One other thing I do to easily remember which folders I have set up for 'automatic archiving' is to assign these folders to an 'Archive Colour Group' (blue in my case). This way, I can easily see in my folder tree which folders have an corresponding archive one. If your sent messages live in the default "Sent Mail" folders, a slightly different strategy is needed because the "Sent Mail" folders don't have half of the required options available in their "Properties" dialogue. To get around this, I simply have a common outgoing filter that copies all outgoing messages to the "Sent Mail" folder in my Archived_Messages account. The original account "sent mail" folders are set to keep messages for N days and to remove old messages and compress on exit. My Archived_Messages account contains over 120,000 messages and sits at 2.15 GB with no performance hit on TB! -- Best regards MFPA A nod is as good as a wink to a blind bat!
