Few options I've thought of: - Get one spouse to work a full time job (if they don't already) with benefits. If they do already work, they can most likely get the spouse covered because of the change in work status. - Wait a few months, dont work, perhaps be poor enough to qualify for MinnesotaCare. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone who has medical issues though. http://www.dhs.state.mn.us/HealthCare/programs/eligible-minnesotacare.htm The worker would have to have nothing for assets or cash though. It appears there are no asset limits with children. Since this is within 6 months of lost coverage, don't have to worry about pre-existing condition stuff. - Pay for most things out of pocket. Get short-term health coverage from Fortis (Now Assurant) for disasters. https://www.etdbw.com/fh/stm/servlet/productselection For two people born in 1970 and 2 children I got the following: deductable, initial payment, subsequent payments $1000, $234.37, $183.74 $500, $287.96, $229.68 $250, $307.45, $246.38 It's all at 80% after the deductable is met though, which sort of sucks. For single born in 1950 it was $1000,$146.67,$108.58 $500,$158.85,$119.02 $250,168.60,$127.37 Also 80% after deductable. Those plans however are completely useful if soemone ends up in a catastrophic accident. Especially if the person being insured has assets like a house to be worried about. Good luck to those on strike on navigating our awful healthcare system! -- Scott Dier <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> KC0OBS http://www.ringworld.org/ _______________________________________________ Twin Cities Metropolitan Issues Forum http://www.e-democracy.org/tcmetro Rules: Sign posts with real name.
