Scott,

You do not understand how serious global warming will soon become. Apparently,
other people made decisions that kept you in the dark about climate change.

Commuter and light rail use energy. They are responsible for greenhouse gas
emissions too, which are building up and already adding substantially to
damages from climate change.

The Minneapolis light rail is failing the environment. People driving and
parking, then hopping on light rail for a very small percentage of the total
cost of their ride is not good for the environment and not right. People
flying in from all over the world to shop at the Mall of America and downtown
Minneapolis are adding to the rapid build up of atmospheric CO2 than will make
life in future decades from many people nearly unbearable. The light rail
will encourage more of that harmful behavior. That's very sad, indeed.

Back to Tom's predicament, Mike wrote: "there are many people who are NOT in
his predicament of he and his wife working so far apart and yet they still
choose to live 50 miles from work and drive back and forth every day. 3.4
million people in the U.S. commute more than 3 hours every day! "

Personally, we need to support legislative activities that support both
Transit, Roads, and Bridges in the upcoming legislative session.
Business leaders such as the Itasca Project and the Minnesota Chamber of
Commerce also support such goals. Itasca Group has paid for a poll that
shows that Minnesotans statewide support Transit, Roads, and Bridges.

Today's opening of the complete Hiawatha Line (and last summer's start)
have helped to show that the ridership claims are not bogus -- people
can and do ride transit. Transit needs to be put in where it is
effective -- and the mode chosen the most effecient over the long term.
Mixed projects of Roads and Transit could be proposed where the overall
cost per user ends up being less than if the projects were seperate --
and the benefits to road drivers and transit users weighed in the same
forum, rather than in respective vacuums.
