Even if it were possible to have a fuel source for
automobioles with zero emissions (both from the
automobile and from where-ever the fuel is generated),
continuing our present level of reliance on the
automobile for transportation would be a bad idea.
Aside from pollution problems, using automobiles
results in, among other things, urban sprawl, noisy
land-gulping freeways and downtown areas dominated by
parking ramps.

I'm not advocating the complete elimination of private
automobiles but the only way to retain some semblence
of a civilized existence requires that the proportion
of trips taken via automobile and mass transit change
in favor of mass transit.

In short, automobiles cause more problems than just
pollution from tailpipe emissions.
