Find out what their core requirement classes are and find out what programs they use. I took some technical writing classes at Louisiana Tech during my Master's, and MS Office was about the only software I saw. You may want to warn them about Help Authoring Tools, tell them that knowledge of code is important, and that the learning process will never stop. (Which is one of the reasons I love my job-it's like being in graduate school, but with better pay.)
