It depends on what the "learning" is. To obtain a graduate degree just for the sake of it does not necessarily benefit the company. It does benefit the employee.
Learning, by itself, incorporates a pretty broad spectrum, yes? What benefit would a Masters in English Lit provide a computer software company? What benefit would a Masters in Computer Networking provide a company who creates standalone games (such as Solitaire)? There would have to be a real advantage to an employer. Pursuing a graduate degree on one's own would probably be a viable option.
