Hi Mike,

One thing that the Chicago chapter does is encourage gatherings on the
first Thursday of each month. Small groups of people meet in different
areas for lunch or dinner, depending on which times and locations are
the most convenient for them. There is usually something going on in the
northern suburbs, western suburbs, and downtown. Sometimes other
locations host something, too. Gatherings can draw anywhere from a
handful of people to a dozen or more. Some people even attend more than
one event on the same day if they can.

If the times or locations selected don't work for you, you can pick
something that does work for you and "host" the event. All that means is
that you tell people where you'll be and reserve a large enough table
for those who indicate that they'll be joining you. Back in July, I
decided to go to dinner in Schaumburg on that Thursday and had five or
six other people meet me at the restaurant. We had a great time and
could suddenly put faces with names.

I'm CCing Linda Jansak, the current Chicago chapter president, so she is
aware of your desire for occasional meetings farther north. It may not
be possible to do, depending on the percentage of people who come from
other areas, but at least she can consider it.

Cheers!
Donna
