I'm not new, but... Hi, I'm Bill, and I'm... *sigh*... I'm a Docaholic.
(Hi Bill...) I've been working in techpubs for about 12 years. I started as a translation formatter, then moved over to Help authoring, got my first taste of team leadership there, and have since moved around due to several back to back layoffs around the dot-bomb era as technical writer, techcomm tools guru, team leader, and so forth, with some training and consulting in between. I've been with my current employer for a little over 5 years and am on my 4th position here (tech writer > senior tech writer > docs manager > docs practices leader). In my current role as a practices leader, my job is to enable the teams of writers to be highly productive if not thrive, as well as track market and methodology trends in all things techcomm while leading initiatives to continually improve internal infrastructure, processes and methodologies. It's a bit of a brainfull, so off hours I enjoy playing with my kids, spending time with friends, and brewing and consuming my own beer.
