Michael,

Tell your students that there is a correlation between the amount of  
education a person has (by degree) and his/her income later in life.   
Then tell them that their achievement on the SAT/ACT is correlated  
with their parents income.  If this doesn't get their attention, then  
tell them to drop out and test the research! :-)  just kidding, but
