Hi all,

Back when LED's were being discussed on ALE, I did some research on lumens
ratings. I have a chart which I'll replicate here. The standard lumens
ratings come from Wikipedia. I've also (arbitrarily) created a range column
which shows a + / - 10% variance of what I would expect to see. I'm using
dashes for spacing to try to maintain column alignment.

Watts ----- Lumens ----- -10% Lumens ----- + 10% Lumens
5 ---------- 25 ------------ 23 ----------------- 28
15 --------- 110 ----------- 99 ----------------- 121
25 --------- 200 ----------- 180 ---------------- 220

40 --------- 500 ----------- 450 ---------------- 550
60 --------- 850 ----------- 765 ---------------- 935
75 --------- 1200 --------- 1080 --------------- 1320

100 -------- 1700 --------- 1530 --------------- 1870
150 -------- 2850 --------- 2565 --------------- 3135

You really have to watch out. There's a lot of ... er ... horsefeathers out
there and what I consider to be fraudulent advertising. GE now has a "60 W
replacement" with SUBSTANTIALLY less lumens than a regular 60 W bulb and very
bad life expectancy. There are also some "long life" light bulbs I saw at
Walmart that have maybe double the life of normal, but no where near the 10,000
hours of the heavy duty bulbs that Allen (I think) posted about before.

PS. I recently got a 75 W equivalent 1100 lumen Cree from Home Depot. I wrote
about it in another post. I like it, and it seems to be doing its job. I just
noticed that the lumen rating is just barely within my spec range for a "75 W"
bulb. But, it's enough. It wasn't cheap though, at $ 22.

Sincerely,

Ron
