I know that we have not tied any classroom phones to a specific DID unless we thought it was needed. We have the main buildings and any number we had before the PRI move ported over, but left the fax, fire and one emergency line in each building. That way if 911 was dialed it would go out on the land line and didn't have to setup e911. Each building when we dial 911 has the correct address from caller ID. Harbison" <[email protected]> 8/12/2010 1:34 PM >>> Hope this helps, I have only had experience with Cisco's Call Manager(concepts are all the same), but, when we've done setups like this, we normally recommend changing the dial plan inside to match the DID's you're going to get on your PRI. This does make your dial plans a lot easier to deal with and trouble shoot. You could build some translation patterns that match the old extensions, that way folks inside the district could still dial the old extensions, they would just ring to the new 'DID' extensions, of course, if I'm reading this correctly, you've only had it for a few weeks, if that's the case, I would match the DIDs and the internal extensions either exactly the same, or extremely close, now would be the time to do it. How many extensions/DIDs are we talking about between the buildings? The way I look at it is if you change everyone's internal extension to match their DID, there will be confusion at the beginning and a bunch of extra work, but in the end it will all be easy and simple. By having a different extension and DID, it will always be confusing, and a lot more dialplan editing when you do your moves, adds, and changes. When you have the DIDs match or closely match the extension (ext1023 = did6023) you have only a few lines of dialplan code to handle all of the DID translations and when you provision a new phone, you don't ever have to edit the dialplan. You just plug it in, edit the user info/extension and the DID just works immediately. The way I imagine it now, you have a separate PreTranslatorOperation for every DID extension for inbound and outbound calls (e911?). That kind of takes away the purpose of having a simple VoIP system if the moves, adds, and changes are time consuming. Of course this is much easier when the PRI is installed with the phone system. My entire DID range is handled by the following two lines. The guy that set up the system says that usually the DIDs and Ext.s don't match at all and people just deal with it. I have a block of contiguous DIDs that would allow me to have them match, but I don't yet appreciate the effort it would take to reassign internal ext.s --Michael T. We have had a 3Com VoIP system for a few months working with analogue lines. I am getting this moved over to a PRI very soon. I am worrying about my users getting confused by having different internal extensions from their DID #s. That is, my internal extension is x2019. Lets say I then assign the DID # 476-6023 to my phone. People have to remember that my internal extension is completely different from my outside DID #.
