Looks like the culprit is our Ricoh Enhanced Lock Print driver. This is a driver that ties everything to AD so when a staff member prints, it sits on the print server, then they scan their card or type in their username and password at any copier to get their print job. We've had nothing but problems with the vendor that have implemented our Ricoh managed print solution, and it looks like this just makes they day go by much quicker and happier!
Anyone out there using software to manage printers/copiers? Reverting to an older Xerox driver cured the problems. Terminal server would lockup, have slow log on/off and in general use all the CPU. Another problem with the HP universal HP drivers: check you registry after loading one of those things. I ended up using SysInternal tools to see what was happening and found out our registry size grew enormously after the install. The registry had so many entries that it kept the computer pegged trying to find stuff in the HP keys. The driver kept writing and reading the registry until no one could do anything else. I just can't fathom how HP has let this stuff go on for so long. This is not a new problem. -----Original Message----- From: tech-geeks-boun...@tech-geeks.org [mailto:tech-geeks-boun...@tech-geeks.org] On Behalf Of Mike Doney Sent: Wednesday, August 25, 2010 1:29 PM To: Tech-Geeks Mailing List Subject: Re: [tech-geeks] Skyward PAC users We use Skyward through Terminal Services extensively, and had this issue about 6 months to a year ago. What we found was that any universal print drivers, especially from HP, have a tendency to wreak havoc on printing from Skyward in Terminal Services. Once we eliminated those universal drivers from our setup, as well as making sure all our drivers were Microsoft certified, the printing problems decreased dramatically. Never regular enough to know exactly what is causing it. Skyward tech support says it is the result of a Microsoft Printing update. Once we turned off UAC things seemed to improve. Though UAC is probably not the issue with your terminal server clients, perhaps it is related to a security issue that is preventing the skyprint process from accessing something it needs? -TS Thomas C.
