Unfortunately, my experience with Skyward is that the issues we bring up tend to fall on deaf ears more often than not. We get told ‘This would make a really good RFE’ or ‘This is how the rest of the programming is, so we need to keep our uniformity across the board’ pretty regularly, and that’s not the answer we want, or need, to hear when we’re under the gun.

A lot of the reports have been moved in the Web interface from where they were on the PaC interface. If they had kept the same menu path, things would be much easier and staff wouldn’t be so resistant to the move” This is definitely affecting the learning curve! We also get a lot of complaints that they have to go through so many steps to get something done that used to be a couple of clicks in PaC – namely with reports. New users who have never used PaC seem to do fine with the web, but those who are transitioning are not very pleased. Thomas C. I would rather them learn the web now, while PaC is still updated and available, then have them try and learn the Web without an updated version of PaC. This way, if there is something they can’t do with the Web interface (or something that is time-sensitive), they can always go to the Pac interface and get it done quickly. I showed them all the Web interface shortly before school started, advised them to use the PaC during registration (their busiest time, for the most part), and then strongly recommended that they get familiar with the Web portion during this first semester. Come Winter Break, barring some feature not working completely on the Web, I’ll go around and remove the batch file (our building staff use Terminal Services with PaC) and then they HAVE to use the Web. I do not blame them one bit, I am not pleased myself. I figure I'm going to let them use PaC until the new year, and then start transitioning them over to the web interface (as much as possible). No sense waiting until registration. -Eric On Wed, Sep 1, 2010 at 7:40 AM, Brian Tobin <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> wrote: Almost about the web stuff. Someone would need to set up the securities for the web site, and they'll be able to do most. Some staff might be able to do all. Just be aware they might not be willing (personal experience of some staff hate mail). If you are doing food service or some of the other special modules, those might not be accessible from the web yet either. Skyward says this is the last year for support on Pac. That's going to make for a fun year next year as we open a new HS and play musical chairs with the rest of the schools! -- Eric Barringer Technology Coordinator Blue Ridge CUSD #18 ________________________________ This electronic mail is copyrighted by Community Unit School District #205, Galesburg, Illinois USA.
