Dana -
This is a pet peeve of mine as well. The only way I know to get around it is
to use the identical screen resolution and aspect ratio as you do any of the
monitors that you will connect with. They all must be set to the least common
denominator so if you plan to connect with a monitor that is 800x600, then all
of the connection settings, including your desktop must be set to 800x600. It
is much harder when dealing with aspect ratio, though. If you connect to a
standard 4:3 aspect ratio monitor remotely from a wide-screen, netbook,
smartphone, etc, it is still going to mess up your icons.
I have not tried this, but theoretically if you have mandatory profiles set,
then everything should revert back to its original position each time you
logon, but then you also could not change anything else on the desktop or
related to the profile.
Of course another solution is to keep you desktop clean! ;-)

Subject: [tech-geeks] Windows 7 Remote Desktop Question

I remote into my work computer every day. When I return to my work computer my
Icons on the Desktop are always scattered all over the place. I thought my
remote connection was connecting at a lower resolution and moving the Icons
around to fit on the screen but don't know for sure. It's like I have a
scavenger hunt every day before my first class. My question is, "How can I keep
my Icons in one place?"
