I have MythTV box doing DVR duty. Hooked up to 2 HDHomeRun from silicondust = 4 simultaneous channels recording of OTA HD TV. I do not have my myth box hooked to TV, it is running in server/backend mode only. I have it set to save my recordings to a folder which is shared via SMB. then I use a network media player (I use Xtreamer, but there are lots of them availbe) to play the files off the server.
scheduling and recording management is all handled on PC using web interface. so its not as handy as browsing tv guide and picking shows to record with remote directly on TV but it works well for my needs.
