I think win 2003 is min version so you should be good there. I woudl avoid the 4.1.7 update for now. there is a bug in it that will fill your log files with DB messages. its a know issue and I don't htink a fix is coming til the newest MR which is who knows when.
did you pick a GW addressbook to sync for each user? by default this is blank on my server. if you open the manager and select a user and goto properties under PIM SYNC there is a place to set addressbook.
