I downloaded Spiceworks a couple years ago and it was just slow to use and it took forever to index our network. I don't know if that has improved since then. We have more than 250 machines/devices (which used to be their max) and it bogged down really fast.

It is rather easy to setup and manage, they have several tutorial videos to help. And for only 25000 MD's the price is just right as well. What I envision is something that would not only collect data from any Ethernet connected device, but would also have the ability to input data for other items, i.e., projectors (that are not network connected), Smart Boards, etc. I've been looking at Lansweeper which is not terribly expensive (and has a free version to get started). Any recommendations from the group for other things you are using?
