I do understand you are not proposing to remove compat_linux. I do understand your proposal is just about disabling module auto-load (which I don't care about because I run a monolithic kernel).
So why the hell are you throwing in statements like > immense trouble for little actual use. which a) are irrelevant for and distract from your original proposal (which, yes I do understand, is about disabling module auto-load) and b) are controversal at best: I run a file server which I need to back up to a server run by central IT (or buy a LTO library and hire some off-the-premisses storage location for a set of tapes). So I either need to run the propriatery client on the file server (which is not available for NetBSD), write my own client or switch to Linux.
