its no conspiracy. its sun! sun's wants to be the java leader,
and so they're chugging along "innovating". of course, they forget
java is attached to them, so they're dragging it behind them
and creating a moving target in the process.

so, what happens is people who bought into it, like many corporations
have, end up buying a package from bea or whomever, which is really
a snapshot in time of a java environment. when the client wants to patch
or upgrade or whatever, they'll find out java has moved on w/ sun,
and left them behind w/ their antiquated java kit.

don't get me wrong, i like java. but i gave up on it after i figured
out it was easier to develop cross-platform in c. the api's might
be a tougher target, but installation, compilation, etc aren't.
i never even knew c till i got upset w/ working w/ java. so i had
to learn c, unix/network programming, automake, autoconf, etc. even
if it took a little more effort, i could at least look on a map
and see where i was going, and didn't have to chase sun around.
