We have 1000+ Windows machines writing to a Samba share hosted on a Solaris server. The server runs a few processes that read files uploaded by the stations and all works well. However, there is a need to take this workload out of the server and into a NAS appliance. Since we're an EMC shop, we asked them to check whether simultaneous access via NFS and CIFS would work in their VNX appliances. We've not heard anything from EMC yet. Does anyone know if there are locking problems or something to worry about? Same issues as with Netapp? -- Giovanni Tirloni
