And I, mutually, to your "take-a-stand, choose sides, regardless of the consequences" thinking that is popular in some circles. There need be no enemies, no need to take sides. In fact, I don't like summarizing your thoughts to a single blunt object like that, and I don't like it when it's done to me. I don't feel that "ends justifies the means" is an accurate representation of my sentiments, just as my summary of yours is probably inadequate. So I apologize now for doing that to you, Tracy, in the above paragraph. Yes, I'm a fan of best tool for the job. That part is accurate. Those companies have thousands upon thousands of people in them, and I am quite sure that many of the individuals there also disapprove, whenever some of their comrades does something illegal or distasteful. Even if it's their "superior" rather than just a peer comrade. I don't fault the whole company, and don't prejudice their products beyond the limits of what their fault was, or currently is. Here's one I like: "Don't be evil." But did anyone have to make a blood oath, swearing to all they hold sacred, that they would uphold that sentiment? No, but even if they had: Has any member of any church ever done anything wrong, despite making such an oath? And what of the situations where good and bad are subjective, or otherwise not universally clear? It's not illegal to have a monopoly. But it is possible to abuse power in that position, and legal action and correction have already taken place in the case of MS and their monopoly. Over ten years ago, Microsoft was sued for bundling a browser with Windows 98. Does it amuse anyone else that Google is bundling an operating system along with their browser? ;-) (Quote I got somewhere online, at techcrunch) _______________________________________________ Tech mailing list [email protected] http://lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tech This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
