bu the way, companies can and do change. If you has spoken with anyone in 
the 70s or 80s about IBM they would have talked about them the same way we 
talk about Microsoft today (techies were referring to IBM as Itty Bitty 
Monopoly) IBM has turned around and is now one of the better companies to 
deal with.

Microsoft could do the same thing, but so far it seems as if almost all 
the good things that they have been doing (opening up the specs for 
interoperability, browser choice, etc) have been happening only after 
serious anti-trust threats (and ususally large fines) have been leveled 
against them.

the fact that IE 8 looks to be standards complient is a small ray of 
sunshine here, but even that is something that they went back and forth 
on, and only settled on being complient after people started screaming 
about it.
