You might want to compare the R-710's with the PE 2970's. The 710's have much higher capacity for cores & ram, and they run intel chips. But they're about 2.5x more expensive than the equivalent 2970, provided the 2970 can achieve the specs you require. The specs Ski noted are well within the range of the 2970.
