That would tend to argue for possibly a single Istanbul architecture AMD 
machine with cheaper CPU and more DIMM slots. the 8MB dimms for Nehalem 
on most boards to get a relatively large amount of ram are really 
expensive.. But, you could also save even more by getting an older 
generation Harpertown processor and using FBDIMMS. You can get 64GB 
pretty inexpensively. (The DIMMS themselves have doubled in price in the 
last 2 years due to the fact that nobody makes them anymore, and you 
will not be able to get this config from Dell, but you could from a 
supermicro reseller)
