I have no trouble in following your logic in the message below.
I'm sure that the OCR function in JAWS 13 will develop as JAWS has done
over time, look in history books back to the first motor cars on the
road and you wonder how people back in those days put up with them,
compare one of those to a motor car on the road today <smile>.
the main problem for me with JAWS is the SMA thing they have, to me its
a fake and a sham. System Access to Go doesn't have a SMA, you buy the
product and that's it, congratulations! you have their product along
with a lifetime's worth of upgrades and that to me is exactly how it
should be when buying a Screen Reading package or any other product. I
do realise that a lot of software products don't have lifetime upgrades
included in their purchase price but having said that? Well the purchase
prices and upgrade pricing is usually so low that you don't mind handing
the pocket money over to receive the benefits any upgrade may offer <smile>.
As for NVDA and your hearing impairment? I can certainly sympathise with
you as I have a hearing impairment myself but I give you some good news
I hope, have you ever considered using one of your JAWS voices with
NVDA? If you have both Screen Readers on your system then you should
have no trouble in setting NVDA up to use the JAWS voices.
I use NVDA on all my Windows PC systems - 3 in total - and by fiddling
with E-Speak, I managed to find some settings which sound rather nice,
its just trial and error.

Well for me, my view for what its worth I didn't really care much for
the O.C.R with Jaws. Like Eric said at present it might not solve
captures. That doesn't mean it won't in the future. I admit I do use
jaws and have my own copy of Jaws 12 but at present I haven't found
any reason why I need to upgrade to 13 when I can use NVDA for free.
Just to make sure before people get the wrong inpression I am not
saying that I wouldn't pay the money for Jaws upgrades its just at
this moment in tim well lets say I'm not hooked on a particular
feature there by parting my cash thinking "oh yeah! I really like this
new thing in jaws I'm going to get it!" Also as a final note I like
jaws mainly for eloquence but in my case I have a hearing impairment
which is why I use it when I get a little tired of NVDA's Espeak.
Thanks for reading

I should also mention that there is a lot of discussion on this
particular topic over on the GW-Info list <smile..

Actually it doesn't solve capchas, or would be unlikely to. They
said as much in the last fs cast.

Hello,
Remember last week or so, there were so messages about JAWS 13 and
how it would help solve CAPCHAs? I remember Dane, you had said that
Freedom Scientific were once again behind, that there were already
other programs that do that.
I am listening to the FS58 podcast. It does not just help solve
CAPCHAs, this feature called Convenient OCR, but it also reads PDFs
that are just images, or text conveyed as graphics on web pages
with just a few simple keystrokes.
Now that I know more about this feature, I am really excited about it.
