Ah, the driver I sent is for the new generation called Brailliant BI 40 which is the one I got. I'm not sure the driver will work for the previous generation. Probably not so I think you should look at the Humanware website and find the support page for the previous version.
As I said I've got a BI 40 display here and I can connect it using both usb and Bluetooth. Currently it's paired with my iPhone via BlueTooth but I can also use it as a usb display on the PC and even Mac. It will charge the battery as well when connected via usb. I'm running the latest firmware which is 1.0.20 and I have a auto power option here. By default it's set to 15 minutes. But I can change it to either 1, 5, 15, 30 minutes or disabled. I have tried it as a usb display with NVDA but NVDA's braille support is a joke. And here on my Win7 desktop I use a Papenmeier Braillex els 80 via usb and it works great with JAWS. But it's not very portable so that's why I also have a Brailliant BI 40 to use with my iPhone and a notebook I plan to buy at some point in the future. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Gordon Smith Sent: 8. august 2012 14:08 To: Techno-Chat ... Technology Enthusiasm! Subject: Re: Brailliant; Update Hi Actually I need to be a little careful here as my Brailliant isn't the current model. Mine is the one with the SuperVarient motherboard which has direct DC, USB and serial connectivity, as well as the BlueTooth option. I believe the new models are entirely wireless, apart from the USB charge facility. I'm not sure though whether that USB works as a USB display or whether it's purely for charging the batteries. Anyway, thanks for the links, it's appreciated. The drivers I have are probably obsolete now so I'll try the new ones instead. I'll install these before I plug the display back in. I'd do it all via Blue Tooth but the device is paired to my Mac and I don't really want to have to keep swapping and changing. It's easier to switch the display itself between BlueTooth and USB. On the subject of the Brailliant, I really don't like what they've done to the modern firmware of these things. All of the advanced functionality which I used to use before my motherboard had to be replaced because of an accident, has gone. You cannot, for instance, switch the power-off function on and set a timer on it the way you used to be able too. The advanced functions of the firmware are only available if you press and hold the two end router keys and then press and hold the left and right top cursor keys. That, to me at least, is just stupid! Why they had to meddle with something which worked better than it now does, I'll never understand. Anyway, I'm rambling.
