I don't know why everyone is so big on Norton. Here is the user approval rating (at download.com) for Norton Antivirus 2004: 28% (from 234 votes). If it's this bad they should give everyone a refund.
Avast Anitivirus has an 89% approval rating (over 400 votes) and it's free.
