We bought a sunsight over a year ago for accuracy, but 9 times out of 10 we
could not get the AZM to kick in…it was more of a pain is the ass. We updated
the firmware recently…seems to have fixed the problem…works reliably and
accurately. This is how we discovered the anomaly.

We are busy making climbs all this week…I certain we will see tremendous gains
in performance.

Cheers,

I have never trusted tilt markings because I suspect there's only so much
manufacturing tolerance they can/will put put into little stamped markings.
Then sometimes there's a 1/10th inch or so of play in the assembly of the
hardware. A tenth inch might be half a degree, and that's a lot.

I'm currently having a battle of wills with a tower climber about this very
topic. He has a digital level in his truck, but wants to trust the tilt
markings because it's easier and less to carry.

Manufacturer tilt marks do not correspond with plumb... I verified not a
problem with 3.65 alpha antennas... 2.3 and 2.5 big problem with the 65 deg t0

So why exactly is it 2* off?

I guess I'll treat this as a lesson learned...my point is, our mounts are
level... Why should I not trust what a manufacturer has made... After all they
know the importance of accuracy in the Rf world.

I hope you never go by the degree markings on an antenna!

Why would you not use the inclinometer to verify the antenna tilt?

Well, I hope Alpha will be compensating us for every site we need to revisit.
I AM absolutely Furious!!

Every single one of our sites we use a level or inclometer on a mount for 0 deg
or compensate... Set the antenna for 3-4 degrees... according to our RNP and
call it a day.

We have discovered that ALL our ALPHA degree markings are 2 degrees off!

This means my entire network... Which has felt like self interference... Is
self interference. All the antennas are 1 to 2 degrees tilt!!!

Please see attached photos...

We used a sunsight azimuth and tilt meter to confirm. We used the sunsight on
a new site build and discovered the anomaly.

Telrad needs to issue a bulletin and check the T0 3.65 too.

Off we go to rescue our network....
