Following Christof's idea I've made some further experiments. By
replacing the macro \smallvalue by {0.7} I managed to get noteheads,
stems and beams appropriately proportioned, but unfortunately scaled
down to 11 point rather than 13 point. Now the good question is whether
the problem is with the type 1 fonts or with MusiXTeX.

Any ideas?
