Please bear in mind that the slur display problems with Acrobat Reader arise from bugs in prior versions of the type 1 musixtex fonts. Be sure to have your type 1 fonts upgraded to the most recent versions. Thank you. Now that I've downloaded the bugfix version of xslz20.pfb -- which I could swear I'd done long ago, but evidently never got round to after all -- Acrobat Reader 5 does display the ties in the score when generated with dvipdfm.
I notice that the file size decreases quite dramatically when I generate the PDF with dvipdfm -- it comes out as just over 320K as against 480-odd via dvips and GSView. However, for some reason the Palatino Narrow font I use to indicate fret numbers in my barre chord macros comes out as italic in the dvipdfm-processed file.
As long as you're staying with font based slurs you might consider trying pdftex rather than dvipdfm for generating pdf scores. Maybe that'll solve the Palatino font problem. Using pdftex is straightforward: just replace your calls of 'tex' by 'pdftex' and you're done.
