Thanks for the hint. I've just tried it and the Palatino font does now display correctly. The PDF created by pdftex also chops another 45K off the file size compared to dvipdfm. I can live with this. :) OK -- please forget about those uploads I announced earlier in an off-list message. I can see I'll have to reprocess the lot and send pdftex-ed versions, and I don't have time to do so this evening. Tomorrow morning, or Tuesday...
