I've received a proposed update to the musixtex distribution from Olivier
Vogel. Christian and I are in the process of cleaning up some loose ends
before officially posting it. One problem neither of us has a quick
solution
to concerns the vertical alignment of pages in musixdoc.tex. The attached
pdf illustrates the problem. It was made with dvips -tletter.
I think the documentation is designed for a4paper - put a4paper to the
class options, and the margins look nice. In the header of musixdoc.sty
I found the following comment:
% american people perhaps may want to change the paper size
Perhaps it would be better to specify the text size by fractions of
\paperheight and \paperwidth, or at least calculate the margins with
these values.
By the way, using typearea (or even the whole KOMAScript bundle) or - if
you want to control the text sizes and margins exactly -
Sorry, forgot to type geometry.sty
is _highly_
recommended for setting smaller margins.
Try to comment out all definitions of textwidth, margins etc. in
musixdoc.sty and use the documentclass scrreprt. Then you can try to
change the DIV-values eg. with the global option DIV15 (or some other
value). Then you can try out your settings with the class options
a4paper or letter and add some possible locations for hyphenation. And
look at the other overfull/underfull boxes warnings...
The pages are
all too low (top margin is too big) and also the page number is
misplaced on
some pages, falling halfway off the bottom of the image. Can anyone
untangle
the mysteries of LaTeX and explain how to fix the vertical positioning?
