My reason for omitting postscript slurs is that the screen rendering of 
a pdf score generated with ps2pdf is inferior to pdf scores generated 
immediately from the musixtex files with pdftex or from the dvi files 
with dvipdfm. Both of these utilities can't cope with postscript slurs 
and ties. I _am_ aware that there is no quality loss with printouts from 
such pdf files. To my needs font based ties are generally OK. If I'm 
typesetting music involving slurs, then I'll often activate postscript 
slurs which are much, much better than font base slurs. Then of course I 
have to accept the inferior screen rendering
