What a coincidence! I just read an excellent column from an author who lives in Mexico addressing the gringo's attitude towards drug violence south of the border.
One line in his piece really struck home: All of us here are scared of the drug violence, and yet most don't take it personally. Ordinary citizens feel that this situation barely affects them. Bad things happen to other people ... over there.
