Subject: [Texascavers] Mexican Travel
Folks,
A caver and friend of mine who works for the Office of Homeland
Security asked me to send this out. He said they were briefed last
night on a new, credible, and serious threats related to travel by
Americans in Mexico and also southern Texas. There is confirmed
intelligence that the Zeta Cartel has offered a very serious reward
for any US Official (or possible civilian) so that they can be
publically tortured and killed as a show of defiance to the US
Government for what they believe is involvement in the Mexican
Government crackdown on the drug trade.
The recommendation is to not travel in Mexico right now, especially
along the border area. This includes areas that have normally been
safe in the past. The recommendation is that if you must go to
Mexico, folks should go in groups and stay in groups, and not travel
at night. As my source says, the “bad guys” are heavily armed and
quite serious about this. They will fight and have placed no value on
any human life that could be caught in any cross fire or anyone being
held captive.
On another note, when visiting the Deep and Punkin Nature Preserve,
which is located only a few miles from the border checkpoint on 377 in
Edwards County, you should be aware of your surroundings.
