It's crucial to be well-versed in the details of knowledge and to avoid

to his privacy!!), hope this helps.
Many of us are ignorant about the temple aagama shastras and pass comments on
whatsapp gyan.
New Temple Consecration (not the right word but this is the closest word in
English) is different from PunaruddharaNam and to some extent also from
Kumbabhishekam.
If there is an existing temple, the murtis there are already energised by long
years of vedic chants, abhishekams and cosmic energy flowing through the
vimanas / Copper or Gold kalashams on the top.
If that temple is to be repaired, esp inside and around the Garba Griham , the
learned pundits will do "Baalalayam"
Baalayam means transfering the same existing energy of the murtis to a copper
plate or yantra or a gods picture and kept it away from the repair site area
After all the repairs are finished, painting etc are finished, they will
transfer the energy back to the main deities inside the garba griha.
During the repair period , masons , painters , sculptors etc can enter the
garba griha and touch the deities stone murtis too.
 No offence here.
But after the murtis are reenergised after baalalayam and the subsequent
kumbhabhishekam, nobody other than the authorised archakas well versed in
Aagama rituals can enter the gatbagriha or touch the deities
For existing temples, kumbhabhishekam is done once in every 12 years to clean
up the channels through which the cosmic energy is transferred from the vimana
kalashams into the stone deities below.
For new temples being constructed, only after the Praana Pathista and
Kumbhabhishekam rituals, the murtis are energised.
Till those rituals are completed, anybody can touch the murtis without any
offence.
In the new temples, the eyes of the stone deities are opened by the chief
sculptor / Sthapathi only after the deity is fixed on the pedestal over the
copper plates with beeja mantra of that particular deity written / drawn and
ashta bandhanam ( herbal paste) is used to seal the joints.
Then the Prana prathista is done followed by kumbhabhishekam of the vimana
kalashams
Only after that no outsiders are allowed to enter garba griha or touch the
deities.
These rules are applicable only for this temples which were built on Aagama
principles and strictly followed thereafter.
Many of the old temples in northern and western bharat wete demolished by the
invaders and after that agama rules were not followed in many temples due to
shortage of time, fear of the invading rulers etc.
So we find that the bhakths touch the deities and worship in those temples. But
in the southern Bharat aagama temples, which were relatively protected from the
invaders , touching the deities is strictly forbidden
So PM Modi carrying the Ram Lalla murti till it is placed on the pedestal
inside the Garba Griha is NOT an offence at all.
Since the rituals of Prana Prathista and Vimana kalashams kumbhabhishekam will
be done only after that, ( energising the newly made idols), there is no agama
rule getting broken here.
Sculptors often STAND on the idols they make. What they make is a prathima.
Esoteric rituals done on this will elevate it to a bimbam. Further rituals make
it a Vigraham ( vesheshena graahyathi ) that which has the ability to absorb
and emit divine Energies.
By the way the praana prathishta STARTS with an apology to the Onmipresent
Sarvavyaapi saying "forgive me for trying to limit the limitless YOU into this
Vigraham .
"The worship methodology of Vigrahams in a temple like Abhishekam ( bathing ),
dressing up ( alankaaram ), feeding ( naivedyam ) etc IS BECAUSE WE HAVE
REDUCED THE DIVINE TO OUR HUMAN LEVEL.
This is why any mistake in the aaachaarams will negatively affect the Deities
and therefore the temple and consequently the bhakthas. The reverse is equally
applicable.
It's a compilation from several tweets via Whatsapp, kindly excuse multiple
tweets.
PS: I have the formal confirmation, to share here, from the author, Shri
Kannan Ramaswamy for above 'insights' on this topic.-
