Our most revered late Periyavaal of Kaanchi Kaamakoti Peetam, in Vol. II of his
book "Deivaththin Kural", in the section headed "Vedamum Thamizh Naadum",
described the six obligatory actions (shad-karmam, i.e.varna-dharmam) of us
braahmanas.  These are (1) performing sandhyaa-vandanam after bath, (2)
gaayathree japam, (3) homam (fire-sacrifice, or yajnyam), (4) devathaa
poojanam, (5) soorya-namaskaaram, and (6) vaishvadeva-poojanam.
The daily Shiva (panchaayathana) pooja is one of the prescribed karmams.
After a very long lapse, I was fortunate to perform in full the Shiva
(panchaayathana) pooja yesterday.
Briefly, it consists of archana-abhisheka-shodasha-upachaarana pooja to five
deities.  These deities are Somaskanda Parameshvara Shiva, his divine Consort
Ambika, Lord Ganesha, the Sun, and Lord Mahaa-Vishnu as Purusha.
It requires doing/chanting of the following:-  (1) aachamaneeyam (thrice);  (2)
shuklaam bharatharam vishnum;  (3)  praanaayaamam;   (4)  sankalppam;  (5)
gandhaaravam (ringing of bell with manthram);  (6) kalasha pooja;  (7) varuna
japam;  (8) shankha pooja and japam;  (9) aathma pooja;  (10 seeking
Nandikeshvaran's permission for intended Shiva pooja;  (11) devathaa
snaana-peeta sthaapanam;  (12)  laghu-nyaasa chant;  (13) devathaa
dhyaana-aavahanam:-  (a) mahaa ganapathi,  (b) shiva, (c) ambika,  (d) the Sun,
and
(e) mahaa-vishnu.
(14) pancha-kalasha pooja;  (15) aasanaadi upaachaara pooja of sa-parivaara
saamba-parameshvara;  (16) abhishekam (of 12 to 16 dravyams) to the chants of
rudram, chamakam, purusha sooktham, rudraa sooktham, navagraha sooktham;  (17)
pancha-kalasha theertha abhishekam;  (18) vasthroththareeya dhaaranam;  (19)
gandha-haridraa-kumkuma dhaaranam;  (20) individual archanas to (a) mahaa
ganapathi, (b) shiva, (c) ambika, (d) aadithya (Sun), and (e) mahaa-vishnu;
(21) doops-deepa-neiveidyam;  (22) thaamboola nivedanam;
(23)  hastha prakshaalanam;  (24) paada prakshaalaam;  (25) achamaneeyam;  (26)
karppoora neeranjanam and aachamaneeyam;  (27)  raksha dhaaranam;  (28)
nandikeshvara pooja;  (29) pradakshana-namaskaaram;  (30) chathur-veda
paaraayanam;  (31) aasheervaatham;  (32) nandikeshvara (nirmaalya) pooja;  (33)
brahmaarppanam;  (34)   shanku-theertha sip, sprinkle, distribute to devotees.

That concludes the pooja.
Tomorrow, I shall list the manthrams which the performing kartha needs to chant
during the pooja.
