 Thanks Sir.True.
I am not sure whether you restrict your topic only to animal sacrifices or
going beyond, eating non veg.
Why animal sacrifice, even offering things like money, gold, and other material
things with prayers saying " if you (God) do this, I will you give you this"
have been frowned upon by the knowledgeable.
In fact even to ask Him for something is considered bad as it assumes He does
not know what to give and what not.
But being ordinary human beings we can't rise to those levels. We all are not
Gnanis but are ordinary humans, with all its limitations. But we can refrain
from practices like animal sacrifices easily.
But then, some sects will say it is their custom and practice. They may
criticize some of our practices.
We have a Puranic incident in Tamizh Puranams which says Kannappa Nayanar (
when he was a chieftain) offered meat (and other things and acts which we will
consider blasphemous) and God Shiva accepted them.  But then, he offered them
out of PURE BHAKTHI expecting nothing in return. That form of Bhakthi was and
is  exceptional and not possible for all.
We have read in the Mahabharatha that before the war starts there is this
practice of giving " Kala Pali"  meaning animal or human sacrifice - praying
for success.
In the Kurukshetra war, Eravan, son of Bhima was offered as a sacrifice.
Doing one's duty as an obligation and leaving the results to Him (B G) is not
possible for all of us.
But what I find disturbing is that we offer silk sarees to our Gods when we
know how silk is made - by putting scores of silk worms into boiling water to
extract the threads.
Kanchi Maha Swamigal advised us not to use silk.
In my opinion, offering silk sarees also is a form of animal sacrifice.
In my opinion, Leather goods made of dead animals is ok but to deliberately
kill them for our wants is not good. But we don't know whether the leather
goods we buy, like shoes, belts etc  are made of naturally dead animals or are
killed to make them.
In conclusion I surmise it is safe to say  "What is sauce for the Goose NEED
NOT NECESSARILY BE sauce for the Gander".
