Incidentally, I wrote wrongly that Iravan was the son of Bhima - NO, he was the son of Arjuna. Sorry for the slip. And one additional factor in these sacrifices is that the person/ animal who / which is sacrificed must be free from any blemishes. Like when we offer fruits etc they must be of good quality and not of diminished quality. We offer, whatever that offering may be, the BEST to Him.
