Minor clarifying point on Stargate. The US and the Russia voluntarily told the other permanent members of the UN Security Council, UK, China, and, for some reason, France. And I think the only reasons they were told were 1) it was getting too likely that they would find out anyway, and 2) to get help to pay for everything. But as you saw in Stargate, once the International Oversite Committee got involved, the US had to give up a lot of control - which we don't like, and remember how many 'effed up decisions the IOC made, but the brave American leadership of groups like SG1 and the military contingent in Atlantis said "Nope. That's dumb." and did things our own way, which ended up saving the day! That's why it's realistic that we wouldn't want to involve other countries - the French probably want to negotiate with the Wraith . . . (and I'm pretty sure, as it is, some of the 'stimulus package' is going to help rebuild the infrastructure of the Goa'uld empire!)
Anyway, I don't think it's has been established that any other countries know about the Stargate. There are people with other flags in Atlantis, but they might just be contractors like Rodney (Canadian). I'd want some Japanese and Koreans - 'cause them Asians is teh smarts - and some Indians, too. I like to think if there was the possibility of an alien attack the US would contact all other countries and form some sort of alliance.
