As a long(ish) term fan of Doctor Who I have to say that Matt Smith is awesome in the lead role, bringing a mercurial twist to the character in the wake of David Tennant's very popular 'manic' Doctor. Karen Gillan is a stunningly attractive, feisty companion - although I'm not convinced yet that her character, Amy Pond, is particular three- dimensional.
Overall, though, I'm less than impressed by this season so far. Too many sitcom writers, not enough sci-fi writers for a start (and still too many stories set on and around Earth - the only alien planet they've been to was an obvious quarry pit), and despite the powerful central performances from Smith and Gillan, the series just isn't clicking with me. The two-part stories have been the stand-outs of the season and I have high hopes for the season finale (another two- parter), but my unwavering faith in all things Who is being sorely tested this year. I'm also not particularly enamored of the TARDIS interior redesign, while I love the fact that more reference is being made to the 'other rooms' (in the RTD era it was simply the console room and the wardrobe... no mention was even made of bedrooms, although the Doctor obviously had his scooter parked somewhere - The Idiot's Lantern) and we now get more of a sense of 'size', I think the actual console design is very shoddy and, frankly, silly with its typewriter and bath taps etc On Jun 10, 5:58 am, Shag <[email protected]> wrote: > Watched "Vincent and the Doctor" tonight (10th episode of the > season).
