Yeah, they very well COULD have done that. I bought a refurb Time Capsule from 
Apple's website, had issues and brought it to my local store. The manager 
pulled a new one off the shelf and gave it to me, no questions asked. I've had 
the same treatment every time I've gone in with a problem or question. If I 
hadn't, I may not be as deep in the Apple-verse as I am. It's disappointing 
that another store couldn't do the same for you.
