Everything from their hideous color scheme to their chunky name is just a painful reminder of censorship, late fees, uninformed employees, and 90s corporate misery. I would be very surprised if anyone has a positive memory of this hell-chain. It aint like they were bringing interesting films to remote regions and inspiring folks. It was obvious hits cranked out in cynical volumes. They were just a place where you could fight with your partner or family over what to get, fight with them afterward if the movie was bad, and fight with the store over being charged extra. Every single unit of this chain was Wrestlemania III's Battle Royal melting under cheap track lighting.

Good insight; whatever goodwill the Blockbuster name had is likely long gone. Any exec with a shred of marketing savvy would realize they can't succeed by trying (and failing in this instance) to match what their competitors already do, they need to create some new value for their service. Combine game and movie subscription maybe, if they could form a partnership with one of the console makers or Microsoft. Like, here's a chance to re-brand. The name "Blockbuster" is a)hated and b)seems like old media However, they don't offer anything no one else offers. They're just "me too" ing, so ALL THEY HAVE is the name people remember. Are there any Blockbuster loyalists? Nonetheless, it's betting that the umpteenth time's the charm with a relaunch of its Blockbuster On Demand streaming movie service. The revamp ticks many of the checkboxes for a modern by-the-title rental store with 1080p and 5.1-channel surround sound as well as apps for 2012 Samsung Smart TVs, Android and Roku 2 boxes. However, there's a number of curious choices, and we don't just mean the omission of a subscription model. It's missing an iOS app, emphasizes apps for desktop viewing and leaves no way to watch HD video on anything but a TV -- our mobile and PC screens have advanced in the past several years, Blockbuster. Idiosyncrasies notwithstanding, the rebirth presents more of a unified front than the one-time giant has offered in the past.
