After doing the installation, I got to spend a good portion of the evening
using the tablet with KitKat, and I have to say that so far, everything
runs really smoothly. The TouchPad is a great tablet from a screen &
hardware perspective, and Android is very responsive and fun to use on it.
I was always one to sing the praises of WebOS but KitKat is much more
modern OS and "feels" more advanced than WebOS. For example, Youtube is
lightning fast and plays super smooth -- WebOS always had a problem with
Youtube. The amount of Apps in the Google Play Store is astounding (this
one is not super surprising as I had been playing around with the freebie
Android 4.4.2 tablet we got a while back).

Some notes:

--I went with KitKat 4.4.4 as the 4.4 ROM builds are more stable and
time-tested than the 5.0 ROMs. There are multiple development ROM kits out
there for the different versions of Android for use on the TouchPad.

--Installation takes a few steps, but the TPToolbox (developed by
JCsullins) makes it several orders of magnitude less complicated than it
used to be. Essentially, you reboot the TouchPad into USB Recovery mode
and connect it to your PC/Mac/Linux box, and then run the TPToolbox. It
will mount the TouchPad's SD card as a media drive, and create a new folder
on that drive for you. Into this folder you will copy your chosen ROM,
Recovery, and Google Apps ZIP files. From there, you eject the media
volume, and then it installs your chosen Android flavor, reboots, and
voila. You can read more about the process

--Next steps: get a comics reader and video player. Anyone have any good
suggestions for Android apps for comics and videos (MP4)?
