Thanks for this advice!

When I wrote "hinge," I meant the part of the hinge part that is the plastic 
surrounding thing that connects the left hinge to the computer.  It is a 
definite problem primarily because it makes the entire left part of the hinge 
useless, i.e. the screen flops all around if I'm in a moving vehicle, and can't 
hold itself up except if I keep the screen vertical.

I already have the replacement part and just hadn't gotten around to doing the 
open-computer surgery needed to get to the screen and antenna cables so I can 
replace the hinge.  I'd hate to think the bit of flopping I've experienced 
since the breakage a couple of months ago contributed to the subsequent pink 
screen...

Now I'm hesitant to take apart to replace the hinge until I find a replacement 
screen, but that's a non-trivial process in itself.
